AWR-159
Emergency Responder Interface with Ferry Systems
Ferry operations across the nation differ considerably,
depending on the conditions faced, types of vessels, services provided, and
other local considerations.
This course provides an overview of practical considerations, and is intended to stimulate thought provoking, cross-organizational conversations among your community’s emergency responders and your local ferry service providers.
Questions which arise during the training will help your emergency response community to identify and address your unique emergency response considerations, from a multi-disciplined, multi-dimensional local perspective, which will ultimately assist you in writing your emergency response plans.
Technical Rescue Awareness
This course will provide first responders with general knowledge to work on the scene of
Technical Rescue incidents during the initial stages.
An Introduction to Hazardous Materials Response
Incidents may be discovered near an industrial facility, on a major highway, country road,
or in any number of locations.
As the first-on-the scene, your job is to observe and report
conditions to the appropriate authority.

HSI is committed to delivering training in a number of ways. Initial efforts are being made to impact trainees across the emergency response disciplines. Standardized training has been introduced in state training nodes such as the Fire Training Academy, the Criminal Justice Training Center, and the State Patrol Academy. Community and technical colleges in homeland security-related fields will begin taking the online courses as part of their curriculum next year.
These state-recommended courses will help you work closely with professionals from all eleven emergency responder disciplines. We have emphasized online training as the only viable way of reaching many of the 200,000+ responders in Washington State. We also consider it an important potential tool for delivering awareness courses directly to the public, should the need arise. The courses can be used to supplement classroom instruction or as stand alones.
We will continue to add courses for emergency responders as they are developed. Homeland Security Institute courses are approved by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Grants and Training (OGT).
